How We Make Our Perfect Iced Hojicha Latte

With around one-fifth to one-eighth of coffee’s caffeine content, an Iced Hojicha Latte is our go-to drink for the late afternoon or evening. This roasted Japanese green tea has a nutty, slightly smoky, and chocolaty flavor that pairs perfectly with the creamy smoothness of oat milk. While we’re not usually big fans of sweet drinks, we find that a splash of maple syrup really highlights the tea’s dark roasted flavors. Of course, you can use any sweetener you prefer, like honey, agave, or brown sugar—they all work wonderfully!

Not many coffee shops carry this delightful drink yet but don’t worry—this simple five-ingredient recipe only takes a few minutes to whip up. Whether it’s a hot day or want a little pick-me-up, this Iced Hojicha Latte is a fan favorite that always hits the spot!

Ingredients:

  • 2 - 4 grams / 1 - 2 tsp (depending on your strength preference) of organic Japanese Hojicha Powder
  • 60ml of warm filtered water (80°C / 176°F)
  • ⅓ cup of oat milk
  • 1 large ice cube / ⅓ cup ice
  • Optional sweetener of choice: 1/4 teaspoon of honey, agave, maple syrup, or brown sugar syrup.

Instructions:

  1. Heat up 60ml of filtered water to 80°C / 176°F.
  2. Sieve 1tsp of Hojicha powder into a matcha bowl.
  3. Add 30ml of the warm filtered water into the matcha bowl. Mix in circular motions with a bamboo whisk to create a smooth liquid paste.
  4. Add another 30ml of warm filtered water and whisk the Hojicha mixture. Use Z and W shapes in the bowl to create a frothy layer.
  5. Pour cup of oat milk into a glass. Add 1 large ice cube or ⅓ cup of ice.
  6. Slowly pour the whisked Hojicha onto the ice cube into the cup.
  7. Optional: Add ¼ teaspoon of sweetener of your choice to taste.
  8. Slowly mix the glass until the Hojicha mixture is blended into the milk, creating a light-brown smooth glass.

How We Make Our Perfect Iced Matcha Latte

Matcha holds a special place in Japanese culture, traditionally prepared and served in tea ceremonies. Today, it has gained global popularity, with Matcha lattes becoming a favorite in coffee shops. Still, we think the best way to enjoy a guaranteed high-quality Matcha latte is by making it at home.

With about half to a third of coffee’s caffeine content, Matcha is also absorbed more slowly by the body which provides a steady, sustainable energy boost throughout the day without the crash! Our Japanese green tea offers a delightful blend of earthy and umami flavors, making it a great match for an iced latte. We love pairing Matcha with oat milk because it adds a smooth, creamy texture while letting Matcha’s delicious flavors shine through. Coconut, soy, or almond milk all work wonderfully too—whatever you like best! Different drinkers may prefer varying Matcha strengths in their latte. We recommend starting with 1 teaspoon of Matcha per serving, but you can add or reduce according to your preference.

By using our high quality, ceremonial grade, organic Matcha, you can get a delicious and healthy drink packed with antioxidants!

  • 2 - 4 grams / 1 - 2 tsp (depending on your strength preference) of organic Japanese ceremonial Matcha
