Quick Iced Hojicha Latte To-Go Without a Whisk

Quick Iced Hojicha Latte To-Go Without a Whisk

Josephine Au

Sometimes our schedules are so busy that we don’t have the time to make the perfect iced Hojicha latte, and that’s completely fine because we've got you covered. Here’s a quick way to whip up a Hojicha latte in just a few minutes.

Full disclosure: While this to-go version is a convenient way to enjoy Hojicha on the move, it won't quite capture the full depth of flavor you'd get from our Perfect Iced Hojicha Latte Recipe. But for a quick and comforting pick-me-up, this one's a sure winner!

Matcha vs. Hojicha Latte

If you're familiar with Matcha, you'll notice the difference immediately. While Matcha boasts a vibrant green color and a bold, grassy flavor, Hojicha is all about subtlety. Its roasted notes bring out a mellower, almost caramel-like sweetness that makes for a completely different latte experience. The lower caffeine content in Hojicha also makes it an ideal choice for winding down, offering a calming alternative that you can enjoy well into the late afternoon and evening.

Why High-Quality Hojicha Powder Matters

Using high-quality Hojicha powder is key to getting the best flavor in this recipe. Lower-grade powders may lack the depth and complexity that make Hojicha so special, leading to a latte that's flat or overly bitter. With premium Hojicha powder, you’ll enjoy a richer, smoother drink that truly captures the essence of this roasted tea. Especially in a to-go format, where the preparation is quick, starting with top-notch ingredients ensures your latte is as satisfying and clump-free as possible. Here are 10 ways to tell if your Hojicha is high quality.

With these simple steps, you can whip up an iced Hojicha latte in a matter of minutes! We decided to go with a larger (Starbucks grande-sized) version for this recipe to keep you fueled while on the go.

Ingredients:

  • 4 grams / 2 tsp of organic Japanese ceremonial Hojicha (about 4 Chashaku scoops)
  • 1.5 cups of oat milk
  • 1 cup of ice
  • ½ teaspoon of honey or sweetener of choice (optional)
  • Optional sweetener of choice: 1/4 teaspoon of honey, agave, maple syrup, or brown sugar syrup.

Instructions:

  1. Sift: Sieve 2 tsp of organic Hojicha powder into a mason jar or to-go cup (with a lid). If you don’t have a cup that can be sealed and shaken, use a cocktail shaker or protein shaker bottle. Note: Sieving is important to remove clumps since we’re not whisking the Hojicha.
  2. Add Milk: Add 1.5 cups of oat milk.
  3. Seal and Shake: Seal and shake for 15–20 seconds, until all the clumps are dissolved and the Hojicha is well-mixed.
  4. Sweeten (Optional): Add ½ teaspoon of sweetener of your choice to taste.
  5. Pour: Pour the ice into the to-go cup.
  6. Enjoy: Savor your refreshing iced Hojicha latte as you go about your day.

Now you're all set to enjoy a quick, flavorful Hojicha latte on the go, perfect for those busy moments when you need a calming treat.
